Sika Brazil is dedicated to sustainable waste management and the principles of the circular economy, aiming for zero waste to landfill through enhanced waste management practices in its two key plants. By implementing targeted initiatives, Sika Brazil has made significant progress toward this goal in the medium term.

Zero Waste to Landfill

Recycling Rate Achievements

Sika Brazil set an ambitious short-term target to increase its recycling rate from 53% in 2023 to 70% by the end of 2024—a goal that was not only met but exceeded. The company’s recycling rate has shown consistent improvement: 2022: 44%, 2023: 53%, 2024: 79%.

Waste Management Initiatives at Sika Brazil Plants

Osasco Plant
  • Composting Waste: In 2023, the Osasco plant introduced a small composting system that processed 6 tons of organic waste, reducing landfill disposal by 30%. In 2024, a larger composting system was installed, allowing the plant to compost 100% of its organic waste.
  • Co-Processing Treatment: In 2023, Osasco generated 669 tons of waste, with 403 tons (60%) recycled through co-processing and composting. Co-processing in cement kilns allows waste to be repurposed as fuel or raw material, eliminating the need for landfill disposal.
Lençóis Paulista Plant
  • Waste Donation for Social Impact: The Lençóis Paulista plant partners with ADEFILP, an NGO focused on integrating and supporting physically handicapped individuals.
  • Since 2014, Sika Brazil has donated over 500 tons of waste to the organization, enabling them to generate income through recycling activities.

"We are proud in applying circular economy in our processes and this is fully aligned with Sika's global strategy. The Zero Waste to Landfill program brings excellent results in reducing waste and increasing recyclability. The recognition coming through the Energy Globe Award Brazil 2024 shows our commitment to environmental stewardship and innovative solutions for a more sustainable world. Sustainability is not a choice!" Michelle Nespoli, ESG Manager Sika Latin America
Corporate Actions Supporting Sustainability
  • Reverse Logistics Program: Sika Brazil is actively involved in a reverse logistics program to promote packaging recycling. Through the EURECICLO initiative, 30% of packaging from Sika products is recycled after use. In 2023 alone, this program accounted for 6,360 tons of recycled packaging.
  • Waste Reduction Awareness Campaigns: Employee engagement is a key factor in reducing waste. Sika Brazil runs internal campaigns to minimize waste generation, especially focusing on reducing single-use plastics like disposable cups and improving waste segregation.
  • Sustainable Packaging Challenge: In 2022, Sika launched the Sustainable Packaging Challenge across Latin America to encourage suppliers to innovate in sustainable packaging. As a result, 60% of Sika’s product packaging now contains post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials.

Driving Circularity in Construction and Transportation

The transition toward a circular economy is becoming increasingly crucial due to heightened awareness and shifting customer demand for sustainable solutions. Sika Brazil’s efforts—such as co-processing, composting, and sustainable packaging—are critical steps in supporting deep circularity interventions in construction and transportation industries. By focusing on cost-effective sustainable energy and recyclable feedstock, Sika Brazil is reinforcing its commitment to a sustainable future.
