Sika has put into operation new production lines for the concrete admixture Sigunit® in Kirchberg, in the Canton of Berne, thereby investing in the expansion of manufacturing capacities in its home market. The shotcrete accelerator is mainly used in tunneling and excavation stabilization. Thanks to its new technology, now also manufactured in Switzerland, major infrastructure projects, such as the second Gotthard road tunnel and important tunnel projects in neighboring countries, will be supplied with the product even more efficiently. The high-performance technology and the shorter transportation routes will also reduce CO2 emissions, allowing construction projects to be delivered in a more sustainable way.

Sika has significantly expanded its research and development capacities in the Asia/Pacific region and opened a new, state-of-the-art Technology Center in Suzhou, China. The primary focus of this center is the development of sustainable and high-performance technologies with which Sika makes a significant contribution to the transformation of the construction and automotive industries. The new center of excellence will play a key role in tapping market potential throughout the Asia/Pacific region. The investment volume is in the double-digit millions (CHF).

Sika acquires a stake of 30% in Concria Oy, a Finnish startup company specializing in highly innovative concrete floors. Concria has developed a new technology for concrete flooring, offering a wide range of advantages to contractors, architects, and property owners. Sika’s global network and complementary product portfolio will provide an attractive growth platform.

Sika continues to invest in its polymer production at its Sealy site in the US state of Texas, Sika’s latest move marks its second polymer investment in the state of Texas in just five years. Polymers are chemical building blocks needed to manufacture Sika® ViscoCrete®, Sika’s high-performance, resource-saving concrete admixture. The company has initiated this expansion due to the rising demand for its concrete admixture in the USA and Canada.

At today’s Capital Markets Day in Zurich, Sika presents its new Strategy 2028, “Beyond the Expected”, which builds on the company’s successful growth model. The roadmap leverages on Sika’s strong market position and innovation power and sets the course for an even stronger performance in the years to come. The annual growth target will be lifted to 6-9% in local currencies and profitability target will be increased to an EBITDA margin of 20-23%. The new growth strategy is based on the four pillars market penetration, innovation & sustainability, acquisitions, as well as people & culture and includes a balanced set of financial and non-financial targets. Furthermore, Sika reports a strong sales growth year to date (January to August 2023) of +12.2%.

Sika has agreed to acquire a leading manufacturer of tile setting materials operating under the umbrella brand Chema in Peru. The acquisition strengthens Sika’s position in the fast-growing mortar market and provides major cross-selling opportunities through increased presence in the distribution channel. In addition, it significantly extends Sika’s manufacturing footprint. In 2022, the business to be acquired generated sales of CHF 50 million.
