Sika Gains Market Share and Reduces Costs

In the first nine months of the business year Sika expanded its market share and reduced operating costs. In addition the company benefited from lower raw material prices in comparison with those of the previous year period. The decline in sales in local currencies slowed to 5.2% (half-year -6.3%). Sales decreased by 11.6% in Swiss francs to CHF 3 132.6 million. The operating profit of CHF 321.8 million before restructuring costs lay 18% (half-year -40.8%) below that of the previous year.

Sika Group posted net sales in 2008 of just over CHF 4.6 billion. The growth rate in local currencies amounted to 7.3%, including an acquisition effect of 1.4%. The negative currency exchange effect was -6.2%. Net sales in Swiss francs are thereby 1.1% above the previous year.

Full Year Results 2009

Market Share Gained
In the second half of the year under review income was higher than in the first half-year due primarily to improved sales and lower costs, especially for raw materials. Overall in the reporting year 2009 Sika achieved net sales of CHF 4.155 billion. Operating profit (EBIT) before restructuring amounted to CHF 400.6 million (9.6% of net sales, in 2008 9.1%) while net profit before restructuring totaled CHF 269.4 million (6.5% of net sales, in 2008 5.8%).

Increase of Profit and Market Share

Sika grew in all Regions in the first half-year of 2010 in terms adjusted for exchange rates. In emerging markets, double-digit growth rates were achieved throughout. With material costs initially still low and those for personnel reduced, operating profit increased considerably. For the second half-year the company anticipates sustained growth with rising material costs.

Sika AG announces that its U.S. subsidiary, Sika Corporation, has acquired the Greenstreak Group, Inc. The transaction closed on July 1, 2010. Headquartered in St. Louis, MO, annual revenues for Greenstreak are approximately $30 million USD. Growth by 24.7 Percent in Local Currencies in First Quarter

Sika increased sales by 14.3% in the first quarter of 2011, achieving net sales of CHF 1 021.2 million. In local currencies, Sika lifted sales by 24.7%. Sika Decides on Successors

The Board of Directors of Sika AG has elected Paul Hälg to succeed current Chairman Walter Grüebler. Paul Hälg will assume office following the next Annual General Meeting on April 17, 2012. Jan Jenisch has been appointed new CEO of Sika AG. Jan Jenisch, who is to take up his new position on January 1, 2012, will be replacing Ernst Bärtschi.

Sika Acquires Contract Manufacturer in Switzerland

Sika AG is acquiring Romanshorn-based plastic products manufacturer Biro Edwin Bischof AG. Biro produces injection-moulded parts for the European automotive industry on behalf of customers including Sika. The company generated sales of CHF 35 million in 2010 and employs approximately 150 people.
