As part of the company’s ambitious Sika Strategy 2028, we are thrilled to showcase the successful implementation of a solar photovoltaic system at our Querétaro plant in Mexico. This transformative project reflects the company’s commitment to achieving Net Zero by reducing CO2 emissions, optimizing energy use, and fostering sustainable development in the communities where we operate.
Harnessing the Power of the Sun
Sika installed a state-of-the-art photovoltaic system at the Querétaro plant, Sika Mexico, comprising 1,260 solar panels spread across 4,385 m². This initiative is an example of how renewable energy can directly support operational efficiency and environmental stewardship. By leveraging Querétaro's abundant solar potential and deploying high-quality, long-lasting equipment, the project is projected to achieve:
- A 53.8% annual reduction in electricity consumption, equivalent to 965 MWh/year saved.
- A significant reduction of 448.3 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
- Energy generation capacity of 499 KW, meeting 27% of Sika Mexico’s electricity needs.
Benefits Beyond Energy
The project not only contributes to sustainability goals but also provides a meaningful impact on the local economy. By creating over 15 jobs during installation, we have reinforced our commitment to fostering community development while advancing renewable energy infrastructure in the region.
This solar installation aligns seamlessly with the Sika’s focus on carbon reduction and operational efficiency. High energy costs and CO2 emission factors in Mexico were key drivers in prioritizing the Querétaro plant for this initiative. The 4.8-year return on investment further underscores the economic and environmental viability of transitioning to renewable energy solutions.
