At its existing site in Sarnen, Switzerland, Sika is putting into operation a new production facility for the SikaProof® structural waterproofing membrane. This investment in expansion will boost manufacturing efficiency and thus enable the company to serve the rapidly growing market. The SikaProof® product family – for which a doubling of sales by 2023 is targeted under Sika's new growth strategy – benefits from the application of an innovative, patented membrane technology.
The SikaProof® system is used to waterproof below-ground structures and basements. The full bond between the SikaProof® sheet membrane and concrete structure is the key to the system's reliable performance. The ever more stringent requirements placed on the watertightness of basements in the wake of growing urbanization and densification are fueling the demand for high-grade and therefore long-lasting waterproofing systems.
The new production facility will allow the membranes to be manufactured in a single operation at one site. This, in turn, will simplify the supply chain and significantly improve sustainability performance.
"The new facility offers Sika a number of benefits: The manufacture of SikaProof® membranes in a single step will boost efficiency, increase capacity, and thereby allow us to provide our customers in the EMEA region with an even better service. This, in turn, will pave the way for further growth in the attractive Target Market Waterproofing." Ivo Schädler, Regional Manager EMEA
