The refurbishment of the Fulton School for the Deaf, Durban, South Africa, involved a revamp of the school’s Manor House, both interior and exterior, as well as the principle’s house, and a few other internal accommodation sections. Sika assisted with the products to do the revamp and a contractor donated his time to do the revamp.
Revived look and reliable sound structures for school building
The project involved a revamp of the school’s Manor House, both interior and exterior, as well as the principle’s house, and a few other internal accommodation sections. Richard Lamble was the main contractor, effecting the work and communicating with the school board. As well as donating items to electricians and builders on site, Dennis from Star Painters & Renovators, also tried to stretch the painting budget by doing and providing a little extra wherever they could. He reached out to Sika South Africa to assist them with this social responsibility project. Sika South Africa happily joined forces with Star Painters & Renovators, Durban, and donated a variety of products to assist them with the maintenance and repair jobs.
Cemflex®, mixed with cement and water, was used to skim the cracked areas, as well as areas with damp problems. Sikaflex®-11 FC+ was used to seal windows and both internal and external cracks. Cement residue on the face-bricks and brick paving was cleaned off with Cemstrip. Joints were sealed and gaps and holes filled with Sikaflex®-111 Stick & Seal. Sika Boom® was used by the electricians to seal certain areas and create watertight joints. In the ablution and kitchen areas, Sanisil® was applied as a seal to sinks, shower edgings and shower glass sides and floors. Some donated cement-patching plaster fixed up reveal edgings and filled missing patches.
